~ * Metaorganismisk * ~
DKS Lab, 2021
~ * Metaorganismisk * ~ Is an art workshop developed with DKS Lab Agder for 4th to 7th graders focusing on the symbiotic nature of the human body by cocreating artworks with microorganisms in biodegradable and secondhand materials.
Through the pandemic many of us has developed a negative relationship to microorganisms, but microorganisms are vital collaborationpartners, not enemies! Research projects like the Human Microbe Project as revealed us as Metaorganisms, put together by own cells and microorganisms, and more tightly bound to the world around us than we have previously realised.
To understand yourself as a metaorganism is hard. Through ~ * Metaorganismisk * ~ the pupils get to explore their own connection to microorganisms through creation and experimentation with the material Agar, normally used as a growth medium for microorganisms in the lifesciences. ~ * Metaorganismisk * ~ provide them with colourful, modular sculpture elements to play with, and introduce microorganisms to from for example their own hands, face, the floor, or objects in the classroom.
The sculptures get locked into jamjars and labelled + decorated by the students, and after a few days microorganisms start to become visible.
You can also book ~ * Metaorganismisk * ~ outside the DKS programme for your art or science gallery/museum.
Agar shapes coloured by beetroom, turmeric, spirulina and charcoal.
